Athens Student Action was envisioned in 2011 by a diverse group of people working in local non-profits and on Ohio University's campus. They were responding to the need, expressed by the Athens and Ohio University communities, for a more engaging volunteer portal for college students going to school in Athens County.

In response to this, and with the assistance of The Athens Foundation, Psyche Castro, Ben Hastil, Caitlin Browne, three AmeriCorps VISTA (
Volunteers In Service To America) members, working through the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development, developed and maintained Athens Student Action.

In August of 2012, Athens Student Action formed a partnership with Ohio University and was happily passed on to the College of Health Sciences and Professions.
This new partnership allows the missions of ASA and the College of Health Sciences and Professions' to be achieved. CHSP's mission is to educate students from various backgrounds preparing them to take leadership roles in a diverse global environment, to engage students and faculty in the discovery of knowledge, and to extend the boundaries of Ohio University to enrich the quality of lives; especially for individuals in underserved and vulnerbale populations, through interprofessional and community collaborations.

As Athens Student Action and the College of Health Sciences and Professions partner together in a common goal, we are so excited to see the growth in our students and in the Athens community.
